GK Engineers, LLC provided full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design services for the renovation and expansion of the Hyundai El Paso facility for Goree Architects. The project encompassed approximately 33,734 square feet and included upgrades to the showroom, offices, service advisor areas, and service drive, as well as the addition of new parts storage space. The scope also included evaluation and coordination of existing utilities to support the expanded program requirements. All designs were developed in compliance with Texas codes and standards, the requirements of the local Authority Having Jurisdiction, and owner specifications.

The mechanical design included a complete redesign of the HVAC systems to serve both renovated and newly constructed spaces. GK Engineers performed detailed heating and cooling load calculations to determine equipment sizing and distribution requirements suitable for the building’s mixed-use program. HVAC drawings were developed for permitting and construction, with system types and configurations finalized during design to ensure efficiency and code compliance. The design also coordinated with architectural ceiling layouts to integrate diffusers, returns, and exhaust systems while maintaining aesthetic consistency throughout public and service areas.

The electrical design incorporated a comprehensive reconfiguration of the facility’s power and lighting systems to support the renovated and expanded program. GK Engineers designed power distribution systems, branch circuiting, and wiring for HVAC and plumbing equipment, as well as electrical provisions for new automotive service equipment and EV charging stations.

Lighting and lighting control layouts were designed in coordination with the architect, owner, and lighting supplier to achieve the desired illumination levels and energy efficiency. Site and façade lighting were included to enhance exterior visibility and security. Coordination with the local power company ensured capacity for the updated electrical service, and the design provided infrastructure for a generator if required by the owner.

The plumbing design utilized existing water and sanitary systems, extending and modifying them to accommodate new fixtures and relocated spaces. GK Engineers designed domestic water and sanitary routing to connect back into the main service lines, ensuring efficient use of existing site utilities. The design also included updates to gas service and provisions for new fire protection and fire department connection (FDC) entry points. GK Engineers provided a delegated design specification for the fire protection system, which was to be completed by others.

Through coordinated MEP design, GK Engineers ensured the Hyundai El Paso renovation and expansion achieved modern operational performance while integrating seamlessly with existing building infrastructure. The result provided enhanced functionality, reliability, and code compliance across all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
