GK Engineers, LLC provided full Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design services for the Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Lake Jackson, Texas, located at 200 Lake Rd. The project included the MEP buildout of an unfinished back addition of approximately 7,920 square feet, the renovation of various regions within an existing 10,000-square-foot area, and the complete MEP design for a new 4,867-square-foot foyer addition. The goal of the project was to deliver efficient, code-compliant systems that integrate seamlessly with the existing infrastructure while providing comfort, reliability, and long-term operational efficiency for the congregation and staff.
The HVAC system was designed to provide consistent indoor air quality and comfort throughout both the renovated and new areas. GK Engineers performed detailed heating and cooling load calculations to determine the appropriate system capacities for each distinct zone of the facility. New duct distribution systems were developed to ensure balanced airflow and effective temperature control in both existing and newly constructed areas. HVAC design drawings were prepared for permitting and construction, fully coordinated with architectural ceiling layouts and mechanical equipment locations. System type and configuration were developed during design to optimize energy efficiency and system maintainability while integrating with existing systems where feasible.
The electrical design included new power distribution and lighting systems tailored to the church’s expanded layout. A comprehensive electrical distribution plan was developed to serve lighting, receptacles, HVAC equipment, and plumbing systems across all project areas. Interior lighting power design was performed in coordination with the architect and lighting supplier to ensure proper illumination levels, fixture placement, and energy efficiency. Circuiting and load balancing were carefully coordinated to meet both new and existing equipment requirements. The design also included branch circuits for HVAC systems, wiring devices, and any plumbing-related equipment. Service coordination ensured that existing site utilities could adequately support the additional electrical demands of the new additions and renovations.
The plumbing system design provided new domestic water distribution and sanitary drainage to support the expanded facility. GK Engineers utilized the existing domestic water service, extending and connecting it to serve new and renovated plumbing fixtures throughout the building. Hot and cold water distribution systems were designed for consistent performance and pressure across all fixtures. The existing sanitary sewer system was also extended to accommodate new plumbing installations, with connections coordinated to tie back into the existing main lines within five feet of the building exterior. All plumbing systems were designed to meet applicable local and state codes while providing ease of maintenance and operational reliability.
